The McWhorter School of Pharmacy at Samford University has established a Pharmaceutical Sciences Research Institute (PSRI) with a mission to provide resources to enhance research efforts in the pharmaceutical sciences as well as contribute to the Samford mission of teaching.
This Institute will provide analytical and bioanalytical support to faculty and students who are engaged in scholarly research in the pharmaceutical sciences. Research conducted in the Institute involves students as part of their education under the direct supervision of experienced faculty mentors. Samford students will have the opportunity to present their research at local, national or international meetings and have their work published in peer reviewed journals.
In addition to the research activities, the laboratories analyze drug samples and biological fluids for drug companies, reference laboratories, hospitals, and research companies from all over the nation. These services include:
- new drug assay development
- method transfer
- analysis of biological samples from efficacy, preclinical ADME/pharmacokinetic, and toxicology/safety assessment studies for active(s) and metabolites
- Phase I and II in vitro metabolism studies (stability, metabolite identification, kinetics, drug-drug interaction)
See the PSRI brochure for complete list of additional capabilities and instrumentation
